Backtracking and parents

I’m currently learning about backtracking with python and I am stuck at this particular situation.
Consider the following program:

when I run it, I get the following traceback:

When I remove the line “fib_n.append(fib(n-i))” in the for loop and also remove the return statement in the function, the backtracking doesn’t happen and the program works.
I tried to remove the return statement in the function and change the last element of the list by “0” in order to return “0
